Elderberry Syrup
My take on the oft-used Elderberry Syrup pairs these powerhouse berries with black currants which are also strongly antiviral. It also includes a handful of other potent immuno-stimulating herbs; lemon balm, licorice, ginger, burdock, and thyme.
Elderberry has a long folk history of use in nipping illness in the bud. It can be taken when you first get a tickle of something coming or when you know your immune system needs a boost like during times of poor sleep, high viral exposure, while travelling, stressful, snotty school kids (hehehe), etc. It may help to shorten or completely curtail your experience of illness.
This combination of herbs is also a well rounded tonic for the lungs, digestive system, and organs of elimination - alterative, immuno-stimulating, and circulation enhancing - so you can take it any time it feels like your system needs a boost.Enjoy it neat off the spoon, or added to tea, juice, or sparkling water.
*Note unlike most elderberry syrups, mine contains a small amount of alcohol. I include thyme and ginger tincture, both for their medicinal benefits and to aid in preservation. Alcohol percentage is less than 3%
